    Default Big Chip

    Today I thought I'd hone a blade 7/8th's Hart.
I was gonna refresh on the 5k and then do some Naguras on the Jnat. Rolling strokes only, definitely non of those harsh evil circles .

After refreshing on the 5k Chosera I noticed what looked like a piece of filth but in fact it turned out to be a huge monster chip next to the heel.
I got the 1k out and started going at it... No joy, this would need my Shapton 500k.

It took an age of sweating and heavy circles, there was metal every where.

Finally I got it back on the 1k and then on the 5k where I noticed a part near the tip that wasn't touching the hone. I tried a few tricks but I could tell that I'd taken too much from that spot on the 500k , so I headed back to the 500k and did a bag full of light X's to try and even everything out.

It did the trick, so I went back again to the 1k which wouldn't set the bevel, I nearly gave up at that point but instead I made a slurry and managed to set the bevel.
Then the 5k and then a few Naguras to a finish.
    And that's my life story

Looks like it worked. I would have breadknifed it and reset the bevel. Same results and a little quicker.

Hope you were off the spine, or at least lots of tape...

Don’t forget to re-shape that heel.

Yep, looks like a precursor to a Cut Of The Day entry.

Off the spine. I don't know what that means.
I'm making this up as I go along

I did use a load of tape.

Hone with the spine off the stone, not touching 45 degrees to the stone or higher, just to grind off metal.
