    Frankenstein,

I used to use my coticule's after a 1,3, 8 Naniwa SS progression. I often used to do 10 -20 laps on a 12k Naniwa SS after the coticule's, as (for me) I preferred the edges that way.

These days, I tend to use the coticule's almost exclusively, even for bevel setting (using thick slurry).

I use a La Verte or a La Veinette for the finishing stages. I also like to finish on coticules with a 'wispy' slurry (YMMV).

I now tend to finish my razors on Jnats (Shoubudani Asagi), and find (for me), that the coticules are an excellent pre-stone for use with JNats.

    Have fun

    Best regards

    Russ

Nice thread. I enjoy using coticules a lot. Most of the time I'll do all the honing on them. I'll use a fast La dressante for initial sharpening and the mid range work. After that I'll usually use either another coticule to finish or depending on my mood and the razor some other finisher.

If I have multiple knives to sharpen I'll do a 1-4-8 progression and finish on a natural. But I don't enjoy that nearly as much.

Nice photos, guys. I'm away from home now so I can't post any of mine. And it's gonna be a good few weeks before I get back there.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

I love my coticules for finishing. I'm still learning with both of my coticules. They are both from old stock. One is a chunk of coticule almost an inch thick with no backing. The other is more modern. They both are very fast with slurry and leave a smooth finish (when I use them just right). I have tried from a king 1k to a heavy slurry then dilute to nothing and I've gone 1k, to a norton 4/8k then finish with the coticule with just water. For me it is still hit and miss. I find sometimes I'm a honing master and other days I'm an apprentice again. It keeps things interesting though.

The chunk here is my favorite.

Here's my go to Coticule. Seems to give a finer edge than my other. It's 1"x5" and is my magic Coticule!!!

And here's my other that is a nice 4x2 that has quite the visible grain, and pinky on the one corner.

I'll back that up. I shaved off this progression yesterday afternoon and I would describe it as buttery smooth.
