“I have a hard time imagining how an incomplete bevel set can lead to a "collapsing edge."

The edge is not collapsing, it was never completely sharp and the user was shaving with the part that was, then they think it stopped shaving when they shave with the part that never was.

This is the result of the Pro Forma, (X amount of laps) honing. You have to hone as long as it takes, to achieve the results you are after.

The OP probably spent much more time on the GD, (because of its reputation), that he is comparing to. It would be interesting to see the edge of the GD.

I am aware of that, and that is exactly why I said that I have a hard time imagining how an incomplete bevel set can lead to a "collapsing edge."

You can edit your posts except for the title, just as an FYI....so you could have corrected your "head" to edge.

And that lack of "straightness" can be seen from the side, even when setting the bevels.

Well I tried to take some.pictures through my loop but I didn't get very good pictures. I did look closely at the edge and from everything I saw the bevels meet.

This thread shows what the edge should look like, post 41.
I can tell you that this one piece of info saved me a LOT of frustration in my early learning process! I would look at the bevel from the side and it would be a thing of beauty but then the shave would be very mediocre.
Back to the hones and the same thing! I went thru this procedure over and over, then I ran across this tidbit and looked at the edge straight down in a bright light and lo and behold, shiny spots all up and down the blade edge. Started checking the edge like this on ALL my razors and my honing improved tremendously and my shaves are awesome!
Thanks so much for this awesome tip @Euclid440
