Hone of the Day

NOS Henkotsu kami and the first real test of the new Karasu. I set the bevel on Botan on the Suita, then made sloppy mid-range progress on Suita's own slurry (this stone can actually finish quite nicely, which I did NOT want). I wanted to do my pre-polishing on Mejiro on the Karasu and finish on tomo, to get the feel for the power of this pretty stone. Very happy with the result so far, nice shave in 3 unnecessary passes (you all know the feeling, when you just can't stop scraping your face with that new razor).[emoji12]

That's a beautiful picture, sounds fascinating, wish I knew more about jnats.

It seems like hone of the day today is the Naniwa 600. Blued this entire blade, it's beat up enough to be used as a test razor. It should be nice quality, once I get to clean steel....devil's spit is all over the bevel!

Seven in done and dusted back out Monday the one filly came with a nasty frown so that hit my DMT 320 grit for a breadknife, the Japanese Mistuon 3000 also had a very nasty chip mid blade which responded better than I first imagined all in all everything worked out quite well very pleased with the edges.

Thanks! There is definitely more than one way to hone on jnats. In this case, it is counterintuitive to think Botan should precede Suita, but that's the way they work. They overlap, since both break down, so when to stop on one and start on the other can be a fun exercise.

I snuck in a quickie touch up, shave in a few days most likely, that Henkotsu destroyed everything last night. Happy honing weekend Gents!

Bevel set on a restored Jos Rodgers wedge. Two layers of tape to start out on Chosera 600. Blade has been re-profiled. It may have originally started out as a much wider 7/8 or 8/8 blade indicated by the size of the tang/shank
