Testing some progressions with the pictured stones. I haven’t tested the edge yet but I’m expecting it will/may be amazing - best yet. This razor’s steel is on par with my Heljestrand in terms of hardness but it’s 1/4 grind so honing is grueling.
Razor
Koyei “Handmade”
Rocks (Bottom to Top, Back to Front)
Hakka, Marouyama Aisa
Ohira Suita, Ozuko
Nakayama Mizu Asagi
Progression
Marouyama —> Hakka —> Suita —> Ozuko/Nakayama
I decided the Marouyama - Suita progression is effective and worthwhile for this razor. The Ozuko and Nakayama are interchangeable. Nagura progression was typical. Satisfying my goals along the way was painstakingly challenging with this razor. Hopefully the shave will reflect the effort!

I was testing a jnat that seems so far to be a prefinisher, shave could have been smoother. So I decided to finish the test razor on this koppa. Class A razor finisher. It has that perfect for me hardness, hard but not too hard, nice feedback, finish on thin slurry and get a perfect 3 pass shave. There was a remnant of a Hatanaka stamp on the face of the stone that is still sort of visible despite 400 Atoma lapping and using a 1200 Atoma to raise slurry for testing. Don't know if the stamp is real or not (it wasn't mentioned by the seller and the price wasn't a hatanaka price) but I do know that this little rock delivers.

Shusui on the top and Koyei on the bottom.
Nakayama Mizu Asagi is the bench stone. To the right is an interesting double sided Takashima that’s Karasu on one side and nearly Kiita on the other. Today it served as a slurry donor. All the rest are unknown and hard-very hard+.
All finishing work today, continuing refinement and polishing of the bevels while experimenting with the tomos pictured here. They’re all in the same neighborhood and a couple could be interchangeable for these 2 razors at least.
The work went smoothly and I’m pleased with the results. We will see how they shave in the next few days.

Refreshed the edges to treetopping again. I'll see how they shave in the next couple of days.
