    Default Nice little find!

Found this hone at a market last weekend.
    The Carborundum Razor hone
    Made by The Carborundum Company
    Size 4” x 11/2” x ½”
    Lightly used.

    Thought it was interesting.
Did some research on the net & came up with this
In 1894 Edward G. Acheson (1856–1931) established the Carborundum Company in Monongahela City, Pennsylvania, to produce grinding wheels, whet stones, knife sharpeners, and powdered abrasives. In 1895 Acheson's electrochemical company was among the first to come to Niagara Falls.

I think Tilly's selling NOS Carborundums. Haven't tried one yet.

I have one just like that, but I haven't used it yet. I have no idea how fine it is.

    Thanx Tony

I enjoy reading old "user manuals" that are printed on hone's and razor's boxes. I feel they are only connection (barber manuals too) with the wisdom of maintaining the straight razor...

I like contemplating these as mini-manuals too. Seems they usually recommend "a few" strokes like this one does or "3 to 4" or some similar conservative approach. Interesting.
