Swatty clean up
I lapped and beveled edges. Then coated it with Vaseline which was soaked up overnight and applied a second coating. That was a couple months ago to cure. There is a thin gunky film left on the surface.
What should I use to clean the old dry Vaseline film off and not mess up the cure?

I used the method Modine did about 2 years ago on several barber hones. The key factor being, I believe, was the extended time they spent in a heated environment that made the difference. I left them in an old car in Florida heat for a week or more. They absorbed most of the Vaseline & I just wiped off a small amount,,, not as heavy as in your picture.
If your was overnite o your home, then the hone probably did not absorb much of the Vaseline.

Just let them stay as they are, in a heated area for a while,,, then wipe off with a clean rag.

Mine went from a whitish gray to a nice dark gray like that. I did a Moraine too.

No, not on these two. They are just in the collection.
I only use a few of my barber hones & that is not often.
I have a beat-up Swaty that I use on knives every other week. I works great.
