    Yea, that’s not micro-chipping.

    That is a problem razor and this is not your garden variety honing.

    In the future, this is the kind of razor, you should walk away from. The pitting is very deep, extensive and at the edge. You will have to get to solid steel, however you get there.

    And that is why photos are helpful.

    It's a Torrey, so it's worth the effort. Hone on the 1k till you get to good steel. What do you have to lose?

    I knew it was a problem razor when I started, because of the "vein-type" pitting, but decided to try anyway because it was my first attempt at honing. Still, I learned valuable lessons from the experience. I may try to get the edge down to good metal on the 1k...just to see how this would be done. I have also learned that I must bring a loupe with me when I go to antique stores!

    Top pic looks like you are honing into the stabalizer as well so fixing the heel would be advised also.

    Yes...good advice. I need to be more mindful of the stabilizer/shoulder part of the blade.
