Kinda curious, from what I've read, everything you see above 60x is overkill. One can always take something to the Nth degree to have a higher quality but to others polishing lug nuts to .05u is overkill... so to speak.

The thread I posted was less to show microchipping and more to show what a good straight edge looks like. I believe pcm got there eventually in that thread.
There is no kill quite like overkill! Honestly sometimes I don't think 60x is enough. For my puroses anyway. I'd like to get a good clear loupe capable of 100x or somewheres thereabouts. 60x does work, you just need to be looking real close. It's funny how a teeny little chip can ruin the comfort of an edge. It's also strange that sometimes they make little difference in the way it feels on your face.

As it's been said, I guess, it's just a tool. If the shave says something is wonky then time to take a closer look.

For hundreds of year guys shaved perfectly fine, on just linen and leather and maybe a small, fine natural finishing stone.
Everything we do here, is overkill. And some of us are still chasing… more.
Folks say that about racing, but drive a 60’s muscle car around a corner, at speed, or a panic stop, and try the same maneuver in a modern car and you will thank the racing guy for pushing the envelope.
No difference here, 8k was the gold standard for years, now 12k is so, so and 20-30k/ .5um is quickly becoming the norm.
Whatever works for you…
