Shout out to Euclid
I've been sharpening razors for over 40 yrs with good results. Never commercially. Just my own stash. Many, many times though I've had to go back to the hones to get that last 1% out of a blade.
Euclid posted this little $5, 60x microscope several times and I finally thought what the heck.
Picked one up a few months ago and began using it not really expecting anything more than my standard 15x provided. I mean heck, it was a $5 microscope.
What a surprise! When I would look at those bevels that I had to take back to the hones, it was obvious that the bevel was not 100% complete.
Bam! Now I check before I come off the low grits for the bevel set and throughout the entire progression for scratch removal. Much quicker and more accurate. Shows microchips and lets you know when you need to joint an edge. Saves lots of strokes and pretty well guarantees a great edge after stropping.
$5. Really? Thanks!Last edited by kelbro; 09-04-2016 at 02:31 AM.

I started getting much better edges after I bought a microscope and could actually see what the edges looked like.

Also, when you 'sharpie' a bevel and you think that you've removed all of the ink, this little microscope will confirm or deny that assumption.
