    Default Edge restoration

Hello, I've acquired a couple of rather nice razors and rather high prices and and want to screw them up. I've took pics under 200x microscope. I have 4/8 norton and 1000 sandpaper. Are those edges something that I can fix myself or am I better off sending them out for an edge regrind or something like that? Who'd be the person to send it to?

The 1000-grit sandpaper will fix that without too much trouble. (It is wet-dry sandpaper, yes?)

First, though, you might want to try taping the spine with electrical tape and doing some laps on the 4K. Use some pressure, but work hard to keep your strokes even. It'll take a while. I'd check the edge every 50 laps or so. It should look straight and even at 100x. That's the highest my microscope goes, so I can't tell you how it should look at 200x.

If you're getting frustrated, wet a piece of the sandpaper and stick it to something flat, like a piece of glass or marble tile. Then do regular honing strokes on that, again with even pressure. Check the edge every 30 laps or so.

Those chips are bad but not horrible. A little patience will take care of them.

    Good luck,
    Josh
