    Default Creating a great bevel

    Hello Guys,

I've been forging for about a year now and I still have problems making the perfect edge. My blades always have a little curve and it's fairly difficult getting the bevel even and symmetric. I can make a great shaver, it just takes a lot of effort. I have a professional grinder (variable speeds) and understand the forging process just need any tips on the final grind and making the bevel right. For starters what belts do you guys use on the final grind ( blade is .020 or less). Any help is appreciated.

    Big Greg

How can you be having a hard time getting an edge when you have your much touted Imperia La Roccia? I really like mine. Experimenting with different nagura stones on the ILR is as good as it gets IMO.
Are you about to introduce a new piece of equipment for putting together the perfect spine to edge alignment tool?
    I'm interested in it...

Forging a razor from scratch is a little different to getting an edge on a razor...

I love the Imperia La Roccia stones too, but it's getting the razor ready for honing that's a pain. It's (the edge) got to be an even grind from toe to heal or the bevel will be wavy and hard to sharpen.

This looks like a question better suited to The Workshop or The Forge. I use a Norton 1K to get my bevels set, and don't so any grinding to get them where I want. But I also haven't forged my own razor. Yet. But I do have a Damascus ingot and a dream...

Last year after the Texas meet at Charlie Lewis's place, Bruno posted a video about this.
