I never use more than 600 grit sandpaper. If you hold the sandpaper in your hand and rub it along the edge of the hone it will have a rounding effect as the sandpaper will be curled around the edge.

I think if an edge is not bevelled then its prone to get chipped.. At least that is what I've found over the years .
DMT is the way to go. I couldn't imagine taking a Dremel to my beloved hones

I used my diamond plate, you aren't trying to form an apex in the middle of the hone or anything so it is only a few minutes work. There is no need to use any sort of power tool.
In fact i think using anything powered would cause more harm than goodBread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanks for all the awesome input.
I used a DMT 325 on the hones under running water and it worked like a charm. Now that I see how soft these stones are, I agree with the person who said they wouldn't use a Dremel.

Good to hear you didn't use power tools and you had a DMT to use. Now hone up a dozen razors.
It's just Sharpening, right?

I honed my first razor the other night, a Solingen made Navara de Rasurar Alemana.
Started with a King 1000, progressed to Niniwa 5k, 8k, 12k. Went slowly while watching one of Lynn's instructional videos.
Got a great shave with it. It isn't as sharp as my new Dovo, though was very comfortable with no tugging / pulling.
