Do it yourself glass hone from yesteryear
Not much to it, and it looks like it could work well. But where do you get those old school (no pun) slate pencils in this day and age?

Yeah, that's the one that got me googling. I came up with that P.M. article from a search. I also searched the forum and found that some have used frosted glass hones in combo with such abrasives but not slate pen (which is some sort of chalk). That P.M. article basically shows you how to "frost" the glass yourself. It seems like you could get a very nice final finish on the cheap with something like this.
