Bit by the Jnat Bug
Well a few weeks ago I couldn't help myself and purchased a Jnat from a fellow member (far stone on left)
Well after a lot of practice I have come up with an edge that is really actually not bad. My ATG pass sucks no matter who honed it so I usually judge by my mustache area and I have been quite pleased with how this razor feels. Definitly glad I started with the natural. My first few attempts were not exactly what I was looking for, but after countless you tube videos and a lot of practice I can actually do this!!
My process was to raise a medium slurry with the light green Thuringian slurry stone. Start with circles medium pressure both ways about 30 each. Then another 30 with light pressure. Slurry is really nice and dark already. Do about 25 X strokes. really crossing over because there is a slight wobble in my Dovo. Then spray the blade and dilute slurry, did 30 more circles this time no pressure. Then more X strokes, again really crossing over to the toe using my other hand to make sure everything stayed flat. After another dilution a stropped about 60 laps on SRD premium cotton, noticed that the blade wasn't under cutting the water/slurry mix. Continued with about 40 more light pressure X strokes until it was stickin and under cutting again. Then moved to just plain water and did about 50 stupid light pressure X strokes. Stropped about 50 on cotton then about 100 on leather, and this is one happy shaver over here!! Obviously have a really loooooonnnggggg way to go, but figured I would share my progress.
Special thanks to Pete for giving me his personal number to reach out to."If the brakes don't stop it, something will"
