Bevels will always come together but in the past I did sit there for a good hour trying to set the bevel.
This was in the early days when I was destroying blades on my Shapton glass stones haha

Thinking about it ,, it must be a geometry issue....

That Shapton glass comment made me laugh with my similar experiences! Do you find the edge of Harts right off the stone has bits of debris or faint foil like excess steel that is easily removed with linen?

God knows what I used to do or create ..
Youtube videos were responsible for a lot of my early mistakes

A foil edge may mean you are doing too much work on the higher grits..

I didn't become really proficient at honing until I got onto my second jnat.. Then I really started to understand what was going on and what I was doing.

I hear and agree!!! The edge is not foil it is like fabrics, specs. Then I gently see the linen strop and it is gone?

You could try one or two spine leading strokes on the hone followed by a couple edge leading to see if that solves the edge problem before going to the linen strop.

I will try that, when you do spine leading strokes would you recommend the same light pressure and torque as I do with edge leading strokes?

Yes, but you may have to experiment a bit.

Okay, so last night I shaved with the razor in question! Also I decided to use the advice given to me by BobH to do some spine leading strokes and finish with edge leading strokes to see if that would do anything on another Hart 7/8 blade I have which is an older batch too.

Op Hart razor shaved wonderfully (right side of my face)! I did not do the spine leading strokes followed by edge leading on this one yet. This razor was finished on a 16k Shapton glass.

Second Hart razor shaved even better (left side of face) With spine leading strokes and finished with edge leading strokes. So keen and probably the smoothest edge I have ever shaved with in the 2 1/2 years I have been shaving with a straight. Boom! This razor was finished on one of my jnats.

Again thank you everyone for your advice and willingness to help a guy out even if I have been on here fussing about the same razors! Although I am grateful these razors are not easy to hone because every time I encounter a problem it open an opportunity to learn something new about "the big honing skill picture" each time!

I will try to take some photos tonight and post them tomorrow, I love photos too!

Here is a co workers modern production Hart 7/8 razor I honed up last night! It had a V shape to the blades edge not a smile, where 1" of the toe of the blade on one side did not meet the stone with one layer of tape. It looked like from the factory the blade in order to pass the test had the spine lifted off the stone in order to make contact with the stone. It had a large secondary bevel 1" off the toe and it had several chips in it....from the factory. So I moved up to two pieces then three pieces to see if the blade with a rolling X stroke would now make contact with the stone which it did! I set the bevel, worked my way up the progression and finished on my Nakayama Asagi, w/slurry finish.
