Thread: Honing poor/hard steel and bad geometry???

3 layers of tape I have already tried 2 pieces

4k grit Shapton glass

Bevel at 4k barely pops hair unlike all my other razors at 4k

Here is what I saw. The water slips up on to the blade easily and cleans nicely behind the razor. It looks like a nice amount of pressure. Your strokes are a little on the straight up and down and not so much on the 'X', not that you strokes would have much to do with this issue, just something you could work towards. I hope Glen chimes in. He has taught a lot of people to hone. Me included . He will likely see more in the video than I will.

I was using that stroke to show the water sliding up the blade. I do a pretty true X stroke when off camera lol! Thank you

Only you can answer the question of if the edge is getting any better,,

I am also making the assumption that this razor shaved in the past

Trying the Magic Marker Test (MMT) will also show you any flaws in the stroke or the edge profile

Your stroke seems smooth and even and you have already explained that you move more in an X when off camera

The only other suggestion is use a slightly more heel forward angle of attack and slide across the hone at the same time as you are pushing ...

The edge has turned out much keener than before, however the shave test will be the real test. Do some razors max out, meaning the razors steel and geometry will only provide a max level of keenness and smoothness? I realize that is a very out there question but sometimes chancing the unicorn can be unrealistic and a waste of time!

Yes actually all razors max out,,,

But that Hart should be a smooth clean shaver once you figure out it's combination it is all about reaching that particular razor's best potential
