    Default Erusta Suprise

Yesterday I honed this "to-do box" razor along with some others. I noticed the bevel was very small to begin with and it stayed that way through the whole process. It passed all the test, as I went through the different stages. Either this razor was blessed by the Pope himself or my honing skills are improving by leaps and bounds.
I tried it this morning and it was hands down my best shave to date.

Congratulations on getting a nice edge and a great shave

It's interesting isn't it-when we look back at where we were not so long ago and where we are now.

Not to rain on your parade, but the thin bevel is a function of the grind of the blade, and being a non-ham-handed honer. That aside, nice job on making it work well!

About Mister Clean's post about his success/ I know that I for one Rarely posted about my failures. That is unless I was seeking help to get to a good edge or what ever.

Roy, as usual, you're right on the money. I had one last week that turned into a sabre saw blade.

It's funny how one day you "just get it". I found once I could set a bevel, the rest was pretty easy. The other thing I learned was in the higher grits is less pressure is more! I have found bevel setting is easier for me on my 1K Shapton Pro than my 1K King and faster.
I am now going to get a good mid stone like a 6K that feels good to me. What meidum grit hone do you all like best?

A 4/8k Norton combo hone covers a LOT of ground in the mid-range. You can easily go from bevel set to shave ready with this one pedestrian setup if you want. Many also like the Nanis a mite better in that range too.

Tons of choices. Like Sixgun said honing is easy til it's not. Some razors hone so easy and others fight every step of the way. Not all razors are created equal.😎

Nice job. When starting out, thin grinds with thin bevels are a bit easier to work with. The thinner the bevel, the less time it takes on each stone. Spend a little more time with blades that have thicker bevels and you'll likely get the same positives results.
