    Default Goldfisch Wetzstein boxed hone

I recently bought this hone and would like to remove it from the box without damage. What is the best way to do it ?

It has a very red color compared with my darkest BBW

They are very beautiful hones. I need to revisit mine. I'm left feeling like we have not spent enough time together for me have gotten near its potential. I am curious why you want to remove it.

Well It's a very small hone compared to the rest I use. It's only 110 mm long so I would prefer to use it handheld in the finishing stage and I'm afraid that lid is going to get in the way and will be soaking wet after I have used the hone.

For the love of all thats holy, do NOT pry at it!

For now, remove the nails from one side of the hinge, so you can hold the box in your hand without the lid flopping about. You can sit the lid back on it when not in use to keep dust off . If you still want the stone out of the box. try placing it in the oven, lowest possible setting. let sit for 20 minutes. use mits when you take it out and try to twist the stone free. if it doesnt move, back in the over and raise the temp a little. I would not go over 200F
If you want to try soaking the stone and box, be aware you risk ruining the box as well. (all of this is the best reason to remove the lid first, so you dont destroy the label which is the only thing that gives that stone provenance)

You really do not need, that much water to hone on it, that it cannot be wiped off, and it is a finish stone, where you should not need many laps.

Just wet the face and add a couple drops of smith or Ballistol to the slurry. Add a drop or two of water as needed. It does not need to be messy.

As said that looks glued, most probably hide glue, water and heat will loosen it, try dampening the stone and leaving in the sun on a hot day, see if it loosens up.

Would be a shame to lose the box and label. Remove the lid to protect the label.
A thin slurry works very well on a finished edge.

I find that it is easier to set the box on top of another stone, with a piece of rubber drawer liner, between them, give me better control.

    Nice stone.
