Thanked: 2Hard Coti + Soft Slurry stone, solution?
Hi
I recently received a nice Combo La Veinette + BBW from the mine. I did a small touch up to my henckel upon reception it was great.
For the last 2 days Im trying to hone a Dovo from scratch, and cant for the life of it get it sharp enough. It does shave, but not what I usually get.
Today I noticed that the slurry stone is almost 2/3 of its original size (in 2 days). It seems, I have been honing with the abrading power of the slurry stone only. The main hone is like ceramic, and does not show any ware at all. When trying the BBW I do get dark slurry.
Can it be the slurry stone is too soft?
Would a nagura stone be a good solution?
thanks for your time.

Hard Coti + Soft Slurry stone, solution?
What slurry stone did you got ? Did you got a slurry for both types ? Coti Slurry + BBW Slurry ? Actually on thr coti the slurry stone should be softer, its the usual preference that slurry gets used and not the base stone....
I would use a nagura on a Jnat, i know that mixing up different types of stones with different slurry stones works...i dont like to mix it up...but its on you playing the fun game to try out!███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███

Thanked: 2The stone I got from Ardennes, with the main stone.
I have a le Grise I bought a few years back with its own slurry stone, It took me years to manage to go thru the slurry stone to the same degree I did on this one in 2 days. I have been honing on coticule for almost 8 years, so I usually know what to expect. I will try with the older stone, but if this hone goes thru the slurry stone this fast, I need another solution.

Thanked: 481It's not that your base stone is going through the slurry stone any faster. You've just stumbled across a very soft slurry stone. You can try doing fewer passes to build up your slurry, or pick up a different coticule slurry stone to create your slurry with and hope this one is harder.

Yes that will work. Most of the time I use the small course DMT to raise slurry on my coticule.
