Thanked: 3215You could go either way, finish on a hard Ark and then add the tape for just a few laps to create a micro/Nano bevel, or finish on another stone, say a 12k super stone, then add the tape and do a few laps to add an Ark micro bevel.
Recently there was a post about how to apply a micro bevel on a Hart, here,
(Zowada, Nano bevel). (Beginning with post 7)
And I recall that Alex Gilmore was doing something similar with Scotch Tape on a Jnats with just 2-3 laps. (At about 1837). He also has some good micrographs of the micro bevel edge.
I had read on one of the knife forums that guys were taping blades with clear packing tape to protect the blade from scratching on knife jigs, like the Edge Pro, because it was tougher and thinner than masking tape.
They recommended the tape sold at USPS as being the toughest. I have used it, and it is tough, but most any clear tape will work, some are thicker than others and all are thinner than electrical.
Bottom line, it does not take much to create a Micro bevel on an Ark or any stone. Remember we cannot see the actual edge with less than 1,000 X. It has been described a “knocking off the corners” but really you are polishing the very edge, the fin.Last edited by Hirlau; 06-04-2017 at 05:55 PM. Reason: Align Video Content for Member
