Gave it a try. And Again, No good! Shaving with just 1K and strops just dont work for me! Yes, It does cut whiskers but pulls and wont shave down smooth. Its like it only cuts the length of the whiskers half way to the skin. Maybe in another 6 months I'll give this a go again. BTW, I used a Barney- Cavanagh HDWE Co extra hollow, 9/16 square point razor. After this failure, I took it all the way to the 12K in progression and it feels great now. Will post up some pics in another thread.

Thanked: 4826Sounds like you need to go to a meet Jerry. It picked my edges up quite a bit going to my first meet, well that and Geezer gave me a nice loupe just before I went.

Thanks for the reply Rez but, I've been to a small meet and also went to Bluesman7's house and got some one on one. I've got a nice loupe now days and it sure is better then the ones I've used before. BTW, Just had my shave after finishing the razor and yes, Its Lacking. Guess I'll go back to the stones. I put 3 hours into honing this one. I use a light touch and im slow.
Anyway, Back to the 1K test for others. I need more practice I guess. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 4826My first time around with this I did hone test hone test, you get the idea. It was pre loupe and I really was just guessing at when my bevel was set. If you have the time to do that back and forth it really is a great learning experience.

You guys have convinced me that I need to try this. I'm still a rookie at honing and have had some good luck and some not so good. I think this will be a good way for me to focus on my bevel sets. I'll give it a try this weekend.

Thanked: 4826Truly, the bevel set is the foundation to your edge. No blade can ever be spectacularly sharp or smooth shaving without a perfect apex. If you take the time to do your tests and watch with your loupe, once the blade shaves well, you will see and feel exactly what you need to achieve before moving up. I am not a fast honer, not compared to what I see in some of the videos, but I am very methodical and I get consistent results. Try it Brian, I bet you will learn a bunch.
