Default How To Hone A Smile?

What technique would you use when honeing a razor that has a pretty good smile? I am talking about just normal honing in regard to using a polishing stone, say a 3" x 8". I usually hone, heel leading. In this case, would I just use a more pronounced angle like when honeing a wedge?

    Thanks,

    Steve

take the blade to your sanding wheel .. probably even a dremel could do it.. and straighten that big smile out flat.

if not, then yes, i'd use the X pattern and probably a little scythe motion.

Don't listen to that misguided advice about flattening out a smile (sorry J). It is desirable. I had a Henckells with an even bigger smile than that (gave it to Ed, what ever happened to it Ed?) and it was fantastically easy to hone and shave with.

Just use the Rolling Hone method:
As you begin each honing stroke, have the heel in good contact with the hone and move that point or area of contact with the hone gradually up the edge to the tip throughout the honing stroke. Remember to keep the pressure equal and even up the edge and you should do well.
