Thanked: 315I may watch the bad video sometime. It sounds like even I would be able to tell what he was doing wrong.
Might have to mute it at parts if his honing sounds like this:

Thanked: 315Just watched the video. Very little experience/success with honing but that was awful.
He started the blade with the toe over the stones broken edge and then pulled a he blade until it dropped off the edo instead of stopping right before. If he got distracted that would be an easy way to crack/chip the blade.
Also, anyone notice he said the first one piece stone had a coarse and finer side? That reminds me if how my Dad calls the more burnished side of his Arkansas oilstones the finer side.
If I had known posting a video of me doing a bad hone job would get me a free honing offer I would have posted one a long time ago. I could threaten to "sharpen" a nice FBU if my razors were not taken care of.
Got to watch some of Utopian's video. Definitely someone with experience. Seriously thorough setup with that electronic microscope. If he saw the 1/7k stone I use that is broken in half (got it discounted) he would probably cringe.
