Thread: Love for Shapton Glass 30k

I fell in love with my Shapton Glass 30k today!

I recent ordered and received two new Gold Dollar razors; a 66 and 100, both stainless steel.



They had no bevel, no spine or edge plane, nothing. I had my work cut out. So I pulled out my Shapton Glass stones. My intention upon setting the bevel and taking the blades up to SG8k was to take the black label 66 to SG30k and finish the blue label 100 on Coticule.



While the Coticule finish needs more work, the SG30k turned out amazingly.



Although I've used my SG30k before, something about honing practice with other stones (like my Arkansas finishers) made today's exercise great. Today I learned to love my SG30k.
