Thread: Uneven stickiness

Hello gents, I have a question. I was honing today on a Jnat and noticed that one side was much more sticky/grabby than the other. Uneven bevel?
If I go by the notion that once the edge starts grabbing I am close to being done I presume that the other side was a bit undercooked. What do people do in that situation, do you keep working both sides evenly? Do you add circles to speed up the undercooked side?
I have not shaved with the razor yet so cant report on that.

If the bevel was not set I would think you would know before getting to your finisher, how is the undercut ? Some JNAT stones I have used exibit different feedback and alot of this depends on the mottling of the stone and whether it's the upstroke or downstroke as pressures change but this is only my opinion.

It was undercutting fine. I couldn't tell any difference. My thought was, as you mentioned, that my strokes were not even and one side was lagging behind.

Is it the same if you flip the hone around?

yes. It was the stroke away from me that was grabbing the stone like crazy.

When that happens to me, it typically means my grip is not how it ahould be. Not so much lack of pressure, but torque on the edge. Doing the marker test can help, but it's usually one of those "sensation" things for me.

Edit: by degrading grip, i mean my thumb tends to move off the corner of the tang one way or another

I think you are right. I do more torque than pressure. Went back to the stone and turned it diagonal, I think I saw a video with Lynn do that but not sure,. The stickiness got more equal.
