    I gave it another shot last night with marked improvement. I lapped the stone again, then applied no downward pressure - weight of razor. It shaved pretty well this morning. I'm not 100% happy, but I'm guessing it will take a while (and a 12k, if not 16K stone) to get there.

    An 8K in the right hands can produce a very nice shaving no edge. All the magic happens at the 1 & 4K levels with the 8K bringing the last bit of comfort needed.

    if you aint got it at the 8k level then its not ready for a 12k,,, learn to do every step along the way,, you should be able to get a shave from a 1k. Tc

    Likely, if it is not shaving well after the 8K the bevel was not truly set in the first place. Without a well and truly set bevel you are just polishing a turd, literally.
