Lynn experimented with this I think, maybe he'll weigh in.

A lot of folks consider the DMT's the be too aggresive to sharpen a razor, but I've been used the 1200 to reset bevels on a few razors now and it works well as a first stone in a sequence....i've been following this with either a norton 4/8 or a blue/yellow belgian progression.

The 320 is great for flattening stones....I achieved far better results than either sandpaper or the norton flattening stone.

    Default I like mine

I've been playing with one for a few months now and I like it. Once I broke it in it really performed wonderfully and that was done with a soap water solution and rubbing a piece of steel over it. I used the back of an old wood chisel but you have to be careful not to dig the corners of the chisel into the stone. It has to be done dead flat. The diamond 8000 should be very good with stainless as the stainless steels used for razors tend to be high carbon.

Howard, would you say that the D8EE is efficient enough at moving metal that you could bypass, say, the 4000 side of a Norton and just use the DMT for touching up a dulling razor (followed by finishing on a pasted strop)? Basically, my beard kills blades, and I just started shaving with a straight. First pass, great, second pass, still quite good, but not as good as the first. I'll have one of Tony's 4-sided pasted paddle strops this week, but I know that I'll probably be needing to hone before too long, so I'm looking for the simplest (and cheapest) solution I can find that's still effective. Yes, a Norton is cheaper, but I figured since you don't have to flatten a DMT, it would be easier and cheaper (in the long run) to just get the one stone. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Joe
