    Default "Dual grit" Tam O'Shanter

Has anyone ever seen a Tam O'Shanter with two different grits? I had thought there was only one kind of Tam.

I wonder if the other grit is lower or higher.

Ask Simon Coull, "Coully". He has visited the quarry and may be able to answer your question better than I can.

Well, it arrived today. One side is a Tam O'Shanter, the other side is another natural Scottish stone called the "Dalmore Blue." It's more of an Escher color than blue though. It appears to be a very soft, slate-based natural hone; the label on the stone describes it as medium grit, and the TOS as fine grit. More than that I cannot yet say. There's very little online about it, though some of the woodworker forums talk about it being used for axes and hedge knives, and faster and more sought-after than Arkansas stones.

I'm really curious to see how it cuts. I've been in touch with Simon and he has one of these as well, which he got from the quarry. We're going to experiment and report back.
