Default Arkansas Stone came with my Wapi's

Just a quiwkie... I received a small Arkansas hone stone with my purchase. Can I use this stone with water or must it be used with oil? Anyone know?

Another thing. The stone is only about an inch wide which, after some posts here and good information, may just be the ticket for X pattern honing. I'll have to give it a try some day on my SS Dovo to see if that will give me the edge I'm looking for. That SS Dovo is a real PITA to get sharp. I don't know how Lynn does it but he got it sweetly sharp for me.

I got one two days ago, I am a newb at honing but it did not seem to work very well for me. Do you have an estimation of what the grit of the stone is?

Historically, kerosene was used for the Arkansas stones because it is a very fine oil. The idea of using either water or oil is to float the "swarf" off the hone and prevent it from clogging up. You can use either one. Be sure to sandpaper off the sharp edges else you will chip the edge. Mparker is better qualified to tell you where they fit into a honing cycle.
