Default how to tell with the 8k norton

how can I tell when I have properly honed on the 4k/ 8k. will the razor start to stick to the stone, or is there any other indicators. I cant get the hht to work, and I cant fell any kind of burr on the razor, but I dont want to keep going and ruin the edge. What do some of you guys look for when honing to let you know you are getting close, and do some of you not use the pyramid, as in going the old fashioned approach of working on one side until you feel its time to move to a finer grit.

With a norton, I usually work on the 4k side until I can pass the HHT across the whole blade then move to the 8k side. This works well with my hair, but could be different others.

Another thing you can do is to run the razor about 1cm above your arm and see if it catches and/or clips the hairs. the more effortlessly it does this the better. Stropping can improve the razor's chances of passing, but that would indicate that it should be better as well.

Be sure to use the thumbpad test during the honing session. The sharper it gets the more "sticky" it will feel.

Unforunately, it is only with repetition that you will recognize what the TPT is telling you.

So.... hone and have test, hone and shave test, etc. That is how you will learn.
