    Default custom razor honing

I do not mean this thread as a negative, but I've noticed that the custom razors I have purchased from some of the best craftsman have needed to be honed and touched up after I received them. I have gone to their web pages and watched them hone and the stones they use and scratch my head wondering how they get the blades as sharp as they do. Has anyone else had to touch up the razors when they receive them?

If it is a custom advertised as shave ready it shouldn't need touching up, just stropping between shaves.
I've never owned a custom, but if I felt like it wasn't honed properly I would let them know. I would rather correct a mistake than have a customer think I didn't send them a great product. Are you talking about correcting a bevel or using a different finishing stone??

I only had one I had to reset the bevel. The others were corrected or fine tuned with my stones & strops.

I have four more or less custom razors. One of them the edge was not really what I like and I honed that one, the other three have been fine, in fact one of them is still the original edge and I had that one the longest. In all fairness none of them hit rotation often but they all have several weeks shaves on them.

I've never had a true custom however I have several from the well know limited production folks and it's rare that any have needed honing upon receipt but a few did.

some have had a decent edge and some have to be tuned the way you want them, Shave Ready is very subjective. what may be good for you may not be where I want it.

but to answer even better, I depends on the maker, you wont get a dull blade form the likes of Tim Zowada or a Max Sprecher. there are a few others I know of that send out laser like edges too. I,m talking about true custom craftsmen, no these other makers that are flooding the market Tc
