    Default Which honing tape?

I just bought a roll of Scotch 700 (7mil) electrical tape for taping the spine.
I've used this brand before with no problems, but this time the adhesive
seemed to melt and run when used with honing oil or Smith's solution.

Is there a better choice of tape, or did I just get a bad batch?

Kapton tapes come in 1, 2 and 5 mil and have non-sticky silicon adhesive.

I use supper 88 and havent had any issues when using oils. Maybe you got a bad batch as i know a lot of folks use the 700.

I got this huge roll from MikeB52 a long while back . I am about halfway through it.
I dunno as it is much thicker, but it is really tough. Best thing I have used.

I recently started into a new roll of 3M Super 88....but turns out I really meant to get the 700. D'oh!

I looked into 3M Kapton tape but am too cheap to spend 4-5x over what 3M vinyl electrical tape costs.

I have been using super 88 for several years and it’s pretty good tape, I put it on once and take it off after finish, I found with the cheapie stuff I was changing 2-3 times during a hone session.

Off brand kapton from ebay works well and at less than four dollars for two rolls delivered, you can't go wrong. It takes about 10 days for delivery in my case.
