I would say begin with 2 layers of tape, set the bevel and see what it looks like. You might need a 3rd to get it going.
Looks like lotsa work to me. You can always go with 2 if you like what you see.
TBH. it looks like one which was well-used/honed and the edge damaged and 'fixed'. Perhaps honed like a knife from there.
The bevel I think I see is too small for the thing to have been honed flat in it's current configuration without tape.
From what I see..
I call those 'bricks'.
If you can get them there, they shave smooth!Last edited by sharptonn; 01-15-2019 at 01:54 AM.

Thanked: 3215Which 8k are you using? If it is a good one, you may be going backwards with the Coticule. Perfect your 8k finished edge, strop on Chrome Oxide and test the edge, then add the Coticule and see if it is improved.
You might also pick up a King 1k for $20 for restoring razors like you posted, it will make your life easier. With a 1, 4 & 8k, you really have all you kneed to keep shaving very well.

Like Marty said. Ive found in my trials that a Coti gives anout an 8k edge when it comes to keenness. Now this is just what i have found. Others say you get more but i havent found this. IMO Cr0x after an 8k stone would be more keen than a Coti edge. But to each there own. Good luck on the clean up and honing. Some days you get lucky, other days you do a lot of cussing when honing.
It's just Sharpening, right?
