Thread: Buying off Wish dot com

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone has ever bought any hones off wish.com ??

if so, were they any good at all??

I have not purchased hones from them, but I have picked up a couple of other items. One was an auto-darkening welding helmet that was just as I expected, works perfectly, and about which I have no complaints whatsoever.

The other was a dash camera that snapped, crackled, and popped when plugged in to charge as if it were about to catch fire. That quickly found a home in my bin of electronics to be recycled. It didn't even get used once.

So, the usual YMMV, caveat emptor, etc., warnings apply. But probably more so than with more conventional vendors. My advice would be not to buy anything unless you accept the possibility that the item will be absolute garbage.

I have bought a couple of things off Wish myself (a fit-bit type thing and odds and sods of things for the cat) without any problems (so far).

The only issue I have with sharpening stones on the site is the fact that no dimensions are given for anything.

However, for ten quid or so I cannot see where I can go wrong - either I get a bargain or a nice doorstop.

Will look at things once my bank balance is more positive.

I think that is precisely the attitude one should have buying from Wish.

What type of hone are you looking at?

Is it super cheap waterstones or those natural hones that end up being 2 inches long and 1/2" wide by any chance?

Got a snapshot of any of them?

Was going to be looking at those cheap waterstones.

have seen some of the comments about the smaller stones - great for small knives, but that is about all.

There's a reason it's called "wish".

OK, so I have taken that leap of faith and ordered a pair of stones from Wish.com.

They are described as "#400/1000 #3000/8000 Grit Premium Whetstone Knife Sharpening Stone Set," which seems fair enough. - £27 plus p&p.

There is, however something that worries me - in the description there is the following image which I presume has been poorly translated from Chinese - am guessing that where they use the word "Mud" they mean slurry (unless the afore mentioned items are made of a really poor mudstone), but it is the first pane that concerns me.

Why would they say to do this??
