Thanked: 9Naturals' colors
Hey guys,
I remember Tony Miller posted something a while ago and I thought that I should add this photo to the community's knowledge base:
L-R: Vintage Blue/Grey, NOS? Muller, 2 small thought to be Y/G, and one labeled Y/G.
No flash used.
Cheers

Thanked: 9LOL, no hone porn because some of my best, highly used, and really beautiful naturals are left out (Belgian and Japanese), not to speak of the synthetic barber hones. This was strictly for this particular type of stones. A Y/G may cost one quite a bit and it's good to have some ideas / data for comparison
Cheers

Ivo,
I have posted the photo of the stones I had on hand as well. Top to bottom are a 2" x 8" MST Hunsrueck/Eifel (same as your second stone L to R), a small 1" x 4" NOS Thuringen, a 2 1/2" x 5" NOS Thuringen, a small 1" x 4" Y/G NOS Thuringen and a 1 5/8" x 7" vintage Y/G Thuringen.
The MST Hunsrueck stones are not Thuringens but of a similar makeup froma different region in Germany. The NOS stone in the middle is an example of the ones I occasionally get for sale along with the MST Hunsruecks.

Thanked: 9Hi Tony,
Yes, this is the photo I remember - my inspiration
Btw, my second stone is not an MST Hunsrueck. I thought it has the same label as the stones that Kees sells on ebay occasionally - and he calls it NOS Thuringen. Muller's Water Grindstones. He said they come from a small family operation, etc. If it turns out to be a Hunsrueck (vs a Thuringen) - I won't be too disappointed though. Especially because you said they are fast and fine cutters (I only tried it once with water, and it was not fast at all - but using the slurry stone may change this)
Cheers

Ivo,
I have one of those too yet mine is lighter and more uniform. The dark color and slight varigation lead me to think it was a Hunsrueck/Eifel.
The stones Kees sell and the ones I get look very similar in real life but slightly different, most Hunsruecks look considerably darker and varigated. maybe it's just the lighting difference betwen our photos.
I'll have to dig out my Hunsrueck and the stones I got from kees and photograph them again.

Actually I think Kees and Manufactum sell the same Muller stones. Be aware though every dealer is different, even if the stones are from the same place. I know Kees sorts and inspects his stones as I do before selling to be sure any inferior ones are weeded out. We have both had issues with inclusions and have had to scrap or return stones. He would be a seller I would trust and i have one of his stones in my collection. I don't expect every dealer goes through that trouble.
