Yez. A good loupe is what is needed. I have one of those pocket microscopes and it drives me crazy. The picture is upside down and you have to get right on what your looking at. Now a usb microscope is a good thing but its also overkill. I use one but i know what is worth worrying about and what isnt. A good loupe would be best! And bright light. And good eyes. Lol.
    It's just Sharpening, right?

    I've been honing for years.

Been through many USB microscopes, lighted magnifiers, loupes etc.
Also have had a share of diamond plates.

Listen to what has been said.
Out of everything I've tried, and everything I own, the Belomo 10x loupe and the 400/1000 combo plate are absolute "go to" tools.
Pretty much the only ones I ever use.

Yup. And USB microscope and loupe or magnifying glass serve two different purposes. For a quick check on the bevel, you don't want to be fiddling with stuff. Simple optics are quick and easy to use during honing. USB is great for documenting or sharing, or sometimes for comparing scratch patterns. Apples and oranges. Not everyone feels compelled to share cool edge pics so if it is a question of buying one or the other, the USB can wait.
