Thanked: 3215“Points 1 and 2 are not the same. The convex hone could have advantages that have nothing to do with the condition of the edge bevel.”
But they don’t. What advantage, where is the proof?
“Points 3 and 4 could exist in a condition where Dovo were using flat hones also.”
But they don’t, Dovo claims to use the infamous convex hone.
“Man you're acting as if I'm advocating the convex hone, I've stated multiple times I don't think the supposed advantages would translate to the real world. That doesn't mean the theoretical advantages would not exist all variables being equal, nor the opposite.”
In Theory… Hone some razors and show some proof, for someone who is not advocating, you are swinging awful hard.
Those of us that have responded to your post do not live in the Theoretical world, we actually hone razors, hone new Dovos, lots of them and speak from that actual, real world experience, not some Theoretical possibility, or hide behind some double talk couching babble, (all variables being equal. That doesn't mean the theoretical advantages would not exist all variables being equal, nor the opposite.)
Theoreticaly, Dovo razors are shave ready, they were honed on a stone, by someone that hones hundreds per day.

Thanked: 44"double talk couching babble"
We're just misunderstanding each other, nothing sinister in it. I went as far as talking to Glen on the phone for 15-20 minutes tonight since I felt things were getting a bit heated in the thread. My opinions on the realities vs theories of the convex hone aligned with his. We agreed on a lot. It was an informative, pleasant chat. That's good enough for me.

Thanked: 13246Yeah I gotta disagree on that
Again hands on experience with multiple customers since the frowns really began about 5 years ago I have re-honed quite a few of the ones I fixed and once they are fixed they stay that way..
Keep in mind the frowns are a newer issue the shave ready issues goes back farther and so does the platen issue which was the first thing I was attacked for bringing up
Marty what do think about 5 years of the frowning issue ???"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"
Very Respectfully - Glen

Ahh ! Dovo frowns. I wish I kept all my old customer pics. Oldest one I found was a fuzzy one from 2012 but this one is 2014, so more than 5 years.
Toe is smiling so an easy fix eh ? But wait... it has what I consider another major flaw which was common with the Timor razors too. Let's see who picks it. I know the guys who hone a lot will see it
Makes me think there were grinding issues as well as honing issues. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 0Well I did not expect this to go this way, this is like the Michael Jordan speech at the basketball hall of fame ceremony...it was his event as guest of honor, what can anyone do but watch?
You may hone your razor as you see fit, you may say "not shave ready" as you see fit, you just cannot state objective declarations which are materially false, especially as a party in competition to earn income. So if you wish to state the physical differences of the concave cutting edge are inconsequential, that is your subjective preference. If you wish to state that 115crv3 is really common 18-8 or deny the changes of edge radius, cutting angle, and thickness that can be objectively observed, you would if established as competitor likely be in some jeopardy.
They are indeed small changes but if you have not shaved from a 20cm vintage wheel via time machine, you don't speak from experience in your subjective position that these changes are never of consequence. Subjectively, they will matter if the diameter is reduced sufficiently.
