C-Mon: lousy shaver?
I have a C-mon blade that I've honed up on a freshly lapped Norton 4k then 8K. Finished it up on a coticule. The blade is clean without pitting or warping. My honing technique is good...I've gotten about 10 ebay specials (WB, etc)sharp enough to give me satin-like shaves. For some reason this C-mon won't give me a smooth shave...I've only been able to get it to marginally cut hair on my face. What gives? Are there some blades that won't shave well regardless of honing techniques? Is C-mon one of those blades? Thanks.

I've heard nothing but good things about these razors!
I would check and make sure you don't have a double bevel!

I have a C-Mon and its one of the best razors out there. As I recall when I got it it took quite a bit of honing to get it where it is now. They don't hone up as easy as some other razors.

I agree with what has been said already. My C-Mon Special razor shaves like a good Dubl Duck Satinedge. It should shave as good as any, and better than most when it is honed right. If you would like, you can send the razor to me for disposal .

C-Mon is a really good blade. If you got it as an a-bay deal. you will need to check it under a microscope. The edge probably needs to be taken to new steel. I have a couple of these, and sold one called a Vulcan. The are a really nice shaver and hold an edge well.

I'm the guy who bought the vulcan! It's a great razor, and has held an edge for quite some time now. Have another C-Mon Blackie I scored from ebay that I'm cleaning up right now. They're great razors, but I do agree they may take to the hone a bid different than other razors.

Thanked: 4942The Vintage C-Mon's are outstanding shavers and were preferred by barbers in the past. The new ones on the market.......personally, I don't feel that they are anywhere near the quality of the older ones.

Thanked: 1I just shaved with a c-mon I got from ebay today.
Had enough microchips in it, but after working them out, I had an excellent shave.
Already one of my favorites.

If anyone is looking for one of these, keep an eye out in the for sale section in the next few days

I've continued honing said C-Mon razor. For the longest time I could get a perfectly sharp toe and heel with a relatively dull mid-section. My Norton 4K/8K is freshly lapped, and the razor edge was not warped (used the magic marker test - gone after one pass). I eventually decided to just work the edge on the 4K longer and with slight pressure in order to reset the bevel...however the bevel looked bright, fresh and fine to begin with. Anyway, this eventually worked and the razor is popping arm hairs all over the edge. The shave is pretty decent.
Anyway...anyone have advice for a dull midsection and sharp toe/heels? Are there typical causes for this other than a warped blade or dished stone? Thanks. I'm finding that the more I hone old razors the more obsessive I get about these details. Every blade is SO different. Some shave like satin after two passes...others takes hours and elbow tendonitis!
