Thanked: 0TI honing advice..
i have bought a thiers issard blond horn 5/8 .... i have honed this razor with my coticule...(15 lap) ...green paste and stropped with a mastro livi strop...(40 lap)
it seems to be a good shaver but the razor seems to be "pungent" at contact with my face...similar to a cracked glass....how i can improve the smoothness?
thanks

TI uses REALLY tough steel. If your razor was not sharpened well from the factory, 15 laps on the coticule is only a decent start. It will take a lot of laps on the coticule to get a dull TI shave ready. I would recommend honing in increments of 25 passes and assessing sharpness with a TPT and HHT along the way. Have fun.

It sounds like the razor needs to be stropped more. Why don't you try another 50 passes on the leather and then test shave. That should help the shaving smoothness if the edge is sharp.

Is your green paste Chromium Oxide? If not you may want to look into some as this seems to smooth out my razors nicely. I have .5 micron Chromium Oxide on one side of a 4-sided paddle.
Good luck!

When you say cracked glass do you mean a sound or do you mean it gives you a rough shave in that either it pulls or you have irritation afterwards. The cracked glass sound is a normal condition for a hollow ground razor that is shave ready. If it is not shaving smoothly I would think it needs more passes on whatever you are using. personally, I'm not much of a pasted strop guy I would be using a coticule. However whatever you have you need more passes on it.
