King 6000
I got myself a King 6000 the other day and am waiting for the Lynn Abrams DVD on sharpening. I also went out and purchased some leather and made my own strop. I hope that the stone I got will do well for honing the straights I have, I know many have been suggesting the Norton combination stones.

It's a good stone to learn on, it may take more stroping to get a good polish though.
I haven't used mine in a while, sence I got the 4k/8k norton. One day I'll find a use for the King.

maybe since you are handy at making things for yourself you could make a pasted strop to refine your edge farther. damon sells strips of leather in the classifieds just glue them to a piece of hardwood and put the pastes onit let it dry and use it prob 1.0 diamond paste and some chrom oxide 0.5 on the other side will take your razor several steps sharper. great looking strop you made

Thanked: 150You'll save yourself a little frustration by getting either some kind of finishing stone (10k and up) or a pasted strop. There are many threads about finishing stones if you do a search, as well as on making and using pasted strops.

It looks like you have not been soaking that stone, you should it'll work better. then you can follow up with a finer grit something

Thanks I will do a search for pasted strops when I get ready to make mine. I eventually want to get a 4k/8k Norton, but you are suggesting getting something higher than 8k, so I will take that into account also.
I do soak the stone for about 30min prior to using it and also use a spray bottle of water during the sharpening. I create a slurry on top of the stone and leave it there to help sharpen the edge faster. I think the picture shows the stone dry, which may have led to your comment.
