    Default Wet or Dry

I just got a hone off of ebay and it syas that the hone can be used either wet or dry. My question is: what are the advanteges or disadvantages of using this wet or dry? How should I hone?

Hello and welcome, Do you you have a picture or description of the hone? I'm guessing its a barber hone.

You'll need to clean the hone more if used dry. Wet will cut slower.

Hi, this is actually the exact hone that I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/Straight-razor-b...QQcmdZViewItem
Is it a good hone? Also, what is the "X" pattern?

I got that hone. It works good. I start dry and use shaving lather on it to finish honing then go to paste.
It's very smooth, so you get decent results dry. Supposedly it's a medium grit, I believe that because it benefits from a paste touch-up though it'll be "shaveable" straight from the hone.
