    Default Thanks Tony!

Okay, rantings of a newbie but....

I've been working on technique for several months now but I just had a breakthrough.

Up until now I've been honing on a well lapped Spyderco UF stone, followed by red then black pasted strops (with daily stropping on an IRS). Results have been okay but I felt they could be better.

Last week my paddle (.5 & .25 amplex pasted) and heirloom strops from Tony arrived. So I took all my TI razors back to the UF but followed that with the .5, the .25, the black paste and the heirloom.... Wow! What a difference! Two passes were so much better than what I'd been getting from three passes before. Simply amazing!

I realize there are many factors here and I still have a LOT to learn (and experience to gain) but I just had to share the terrific results (comparitively) I'm getting now.

    Thanks Tony!

By the way, you may be able to eke some more out of the Spyderco if you go extra gentle on the last couple of passes, almost lifting the blade off the stone. Do a comparison test and let us know how it went

Good idea. I went pretty light as it was. Basically just the weight of the blade but I'm sure there is room for improvement. Man that thing was a BEAR to lap. Amazingly hard. But it's done and I will be amazed if it ever needs done again (I keep the M&F stones for knive, the UF is only for razors)

    Thanks!
