is this the famous thuringian/escher?
Hello,
How about this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Genuine-Thuringi...QQcmdZViewItem
I believe that's like the Escher even though this is Echter. Aren't they all coming from the same quarry? Now whether the stone actually belongs to the box is a whole other story, but may be an expert can seched some light.
Anyways, it's 120+s&h BIN, which strikes me as a bit expensive, although a member spent that much on an escher few days ago.... $1 to open bidding.

it seems so. the BIN price is not that bad. this is a fairly good seller ... i have bought from him before as have other members here. since it is in a box and he is including a slurry stone... not bad... Kees often has some stones for sale as well ... in fact there is a raffle for one going on now.
Be just and fear not.

"Echter" means Authentic...it's not the brand name...."„Echter Thüringer Wasserabziehstein“" Authentic Thuringen Water Hone. Looks nice!

Gugi,
This is a genuine vintage Thuringian hone.
You posted it here so I bet you doubled its value!
It's only a small one with some damage to right lower corner. I am not sure of the left upper corner. That could be damage or a vein of a different quality. Either way the useable length might be very short (13cm total length being about 5").
In the description he mentions that the stone has been glued to the box so you must ask yourself how thin your stone will be in case you want to lap the bottom side of the stone to be albe to use it for honing. I would certainly ask for additional pics and info before shelling out a lot of money!Last edited by Kees; 09-12-2007 at 07:52 AM. Reason: Correction

Ah, Authentic Should've learned german or ran it through translate.google.com
Well, I don't think I am at the stage when I can spend $120 on such stone. I considered opening the bidding, but I thought somebody here may be dying to have one of these and if BIN is fair, why not give them a chance first. I would hope that other members would do the same and if not interested in BIN leave the option for a day in case another member is.
I don't think I've increased its price significantly - it hasn't gone to open bidding yet and
if it ever does there are still 6 days - I don't think it'll fly under the radar of the escher hunters. I am probably wrong though - Kees sells stones and has probably followed the market for years and I haven't even touched a hone yet.
I'm going to enter the raffle - probabilities are low, but supporting SRP is definitely a worthwhile cause. I already owe a lot to this place and many of the members I've interacted personally.

I like this size of hone and own a couple of this exact same hone myself. They do the job very well indeed even without the slurry.
