Guys,
the 10k is a totally different stone, designed for barber use. I never used the 20 or 30 but it should be different.

Just because the thread came back around...
I still enjoy the 20k GOK. I think the second and third shave from this edge after some leather time makes for a wonderful smooth keen edge. The next in line in my book is the Trans Arkie. But the 20k beats it in keenness. The only issue I have with the 20k is its a stone that gets very little use and is so hard. It's just Sharpening, right?

Off topic I know but since you brought it up...
I know each one (natural) is different but the black ark I got from Dan's a month or so ago beats out every trans I own and I have a few of them. It's not just a little better, it's decidedly better to the point that there's no doubt.
I have always thought of trans and black as being basically the same functionally. Maybe it's just this individual one that's that much better.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 10-22-2024 at 10:22 AM.

Ive never had a black. But like you, I understood them to be about the same beside color.

The black I had (the one that broke when I dropped it on the tile) was about the same. This one i got from Dan's is longer though. All my trans stones are 6" or shorter and I have always gotten fine edges from them but this 8" black is just superior. Maybe that extra real estate of rock really does make just that much difference. Or...maybe it's just a superior peice of stone?????
