    Default Honing Wapi

    Hey,

Is it just me or have you guys that have honed these found the bevels to be very very thin on these things? My bevels on the two that I have prepared hairline thin - I have not really seen a bevel this thin on any other razor I have or have honed...

I have noticed this on my Wapis too, but I have other razors like this as well.

I've also noticed that the upper part of my bevel (nearer the spine) is pretty ragged with deep scatch marks - not the smooth straight line I'm used to seeing.

Yes, all the Wapienicas that I honed have had very small bevels. Don't let the size of the bevel fool you though, they are amazing shavers!

    Default Ah, yes, I know...

No question about them being good shavers, I just usually pull the blade up from the Norton every ten or so passes to look at the bevel and this super thin bevel is just ...different.

I shaved with it last night, it was almost there, and actually gave me a most acceptable shave - but I am going to do some Tony paddle magic on it, and will try again!

    Hey Kriton,
That's the ticket with my Wapi: the .25 diamond pasted strop works magic on that thing! How was your shave?

    Default Hey D

I put it on the pasted, but I started to notice a small aberration at the heel - I can't really describe what it is, is is like a very small "wave" in the steel from the direction of spine to bevel, but only maybe a 1/16 of an inch from bevel upwards - I don't know what this is and I didn't notice it until I got it right up under a nice bright light - I am also getting some glinting from what looks like a jagged edge at the bevel on the toe end - when I turn the blade in the light.

SO, it looks for the moment that I will need to go back to the stones and clean these two spots out, as this is too much for the pasteds I think.

THe shave was actually quite good, I just know it could be better...

    Yeah,
I have two wapis and one of them has a strange warped look toward the toe but hasn't seemed to have a big problem in actual use. But, to be honest, I really haven't used that one much due to it being chosen to be my first attempt at a rescaling project. So I may get it rescaled and realize the blade is trash. Who knows
