Breaking in a DMT is not that tough, all your doing really is getting all the high points on the hone flattened out so that all the grit is on the same level.
If you don't break in the hone you will have errant scratches all over the place. Deep ones to

Thanks everyone for their input. Just for the record....I work in the inspection business for the automotive tooling industry and took my 8k stone to work to check it out.
Yes, it is very flat....over the entire length and width of the stone, I could get no more than .0003"! Yes, thats right! Even I was amazed.
I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong though because I can't get my Dovo shaving sharp. I've tried every stone, strop and paste I have and I just can't seem to get it shaving sharp. I'm fortunate to have an E-bay razor that came shaving sharp and it still is. Hopefully I can figure this thing out before that one needs to be honed! :-)
I have a new trick up my sleeve and am going to try it his weekend. Something I've been "making" at work. Its in the order of a strop, but I'm trying a different approach to it....a tool and die approach if you will....
I'll keep you posted what I find and PLEASE keep your comments coming about my 8k hone and possible solutions....
Thanks
