The honing learning curve...
Has anyone else, in their strive to learn the mistery of honing, found that once they acheive a level they are fond of, want to go back and re-hone ALL their razors to that level...
I'm resisting till they need honed but it's getting harder all the time... All the new acuisitions seem to have better edges that my old favorites... they must be honed to the new skill level... they must...
But don't want to add more hone wear... Oh the delema...

Been there, done that. I just choose not to resist.
The worst for me was that I honed all my razors with tape on the spine for a while, then decided not to use tape anymore. With my current hones, this means that I have to go back to a coarse grit to change the bevel angle slightly...
Honing is addictive.

I have a few dozen kitchen knives that helps me from over sharpening/honing. There is always something in need of the stones around here when the urge hits...

For me, this is an academic questions, because I'm not yet getting consistently good edges. But when I do, I imagine I'd want to get all my razors shaving as well as they can.

i,m just learning also and recently honed 2 wapis 1 which i gave to a friend who wants to start using a straight, also i found a wostenholm & a j allen in a antique shop which i honed up at the weekend, now i,m going to enjoy the pleasure of shaving with them before i hone anymore..............
unless i find any more bargains that is, but i certainly got a lot of satisfaction in finding the razors honing & polishing and shaving with them

Thanked: 335I figured the good edges I got were a complete accident and I dasn't mess with a good edge lest I severely tempt the Fates, encouraging Ms. Atropos to challenge my edges with her own. I may be dumb, but I ain't real stoopid.
hopefully, Bruce

I think, when it comes to straights and people that know how to hone, that hone wear is a falacy.
Hone "wear" is caused by people that don't know how to hone, all the others "improve" an edge, not wear it.
Once it hits you that others might pay for what you can do to an edge, how can you deprive yourself of the same pleasure?

Look at it this way.
If they don't feel as sharp as your newer razors, then they must have already dulled. They need honing, get to it!!!
