Thanked: 0second stone for finishing
this is what i have now and am looking at getting one stone with a finer grit. a combination wet stone (dont know the make) with 1000 grit on oneside and 6000 on the other. a japanese wet stone made for global at 5000 grit which seems to put out a much smoother edge than the 6000 on the other stone and is much harder. should i be looking at a 4/8 norton, or would the coticule be a better choice at this point or maybe a better option. i also have a loom type strop with .5 chromium oxide on one side

Well, 6000 is kind of stretching it as a finishing stone. Usually 8K is about where you want to be. If I were you though I would probably get the coticule. If your 6K is on the fine side you can probably go right to the coticule from there. Of course if your flush with cash you can get the Norton combo and the coticule. Then you'll have it all.

I herd from many that the 1k/6k combo stone isnt great. I was going to purchase it for knives but after some research found it to be very aggressive, like the 6k was more like some 1k's
