Curious test shave ready
When the straight cuts a smoking paper wet =straight is ready for shaving.
I read in an interview a older sharpener...

Yes, but did he mean the red, green, blue or silver ones (using the Rizla thickness standard!)?! How about the liquorice ones ?!

Yeah tried this last night not easy to do at all! good luck the paper usually rips before it cuts.

Seems like some old coot once told me to take my straight out in an alfala field on a full moon when the moon transits the Orion Nebula on an odd numbered month two hours after sunset when its rained within 24 hours and the humidity is at least 50 percent and there are exactly two cows in the field. Now if I can only remember what I was supposed to do with the straight to tell if it was sharp enough.

Actually, I had heard the same thing, and it's the HHT from the cow in the field standing furthest North. The Southerly cow will have thinner hair, and thus pass the HHT too easily.
